Fritton Lake Triathlon

It was a good turn out for the Hares at the Fritton Lake triathlons this weekend with 10 Hares competing in the Sprint and Olympic distance races.

Both races take in the beautiful grounds of Fritton Lake and the surrounding area, including an open water swim followed by a cycle leg along the public roads around the Somerleyton Hall Estate.

Once completing the bike course the sprint race consists of a two lap (5km) run, following marked trails around the country park while the Olympic distance 10km run follows a cross country route around the lake through acres of natural woodland. and the surrounding area.

Teresa Rush started the weekend on the right note for the Hares in the Sprint Triathlon on the Saturday and clocked an excellent overall time of 1:40:16 to finish in 124th place overall.

The remaining Hares (Marianne Aitken, Martin Alabone, Steve Bowen, Tim Bowman, Neil Crisp, Doug Grimwade, Jonas Grist, Richard Hanley and Nick Rush) took part in the Olympic Triathlon on the Sunday morning. Despite the wet and windy weather the Hares acquitted themselves well in a field of 200 competitors. Richard Hanley was the star turn for the Hares and showed the difference 12 months training could make by knocking nearly 10 minutes off his time from last year. Hanley finished in a impressive 18th place with an overall time of 2:17:06.

With few exceptions most Hares improved their times from the previous season and were well pleased with their day's work. Eager to emulate his wife, Nick Rush contrived to also finish in 124th place in his race. This was an excellent start to the Hares Triathlon season and bodes well for the future.
