June 2010 Running ReportLast Update 19th June 2010
A STAR IN THE MAKING
Many congratulations to our junior hare Kieran Bleasby who won the Capel 1 fun run on Sunday 13th June. Kieran 13 completed the mile in an excellent time of 5.41 which is fantastically quick for someone of his age – beating in the process many other top juniors from around the county. A great benchmark to work from, we wish Kieron all the very best for a promising athletic career!
THE CAPE WRATH CHALLENGE
The Cape Wrath Challenge, in Cape Wrath (the most North Westerly point on the British mainland) covers 6 days which include 5 days of runs of varying lengths and different degrees of endurance. Veteran Mike Rosbrook was our representative as he took on the incredible feat held on 15th – 21st May this year. Monday was 10k which Mike completed in 50.25, Tuesday 5.5 mile hill race with a 900ft climb which was completed in 46.07, Wednesday was a 8.5 mile cross country race which was done in 1,15.46 whereas Thursday was a gentle 3 mile beach run which many of the competitors did in fancy dress! Friday was rest day before the big one on Saturday, a full marathon, with 2,500ft of ascent thrown in which Mike ran in a very respectable 4,19.15. And all that at an incredible 72 years old!! What can we say except you are an inspiration to all your fellow Hares! Congratulations on your achievement.
HARWICH 5K SERIES
It’s that time of year again when we welcome the Harwich 5k series. 5 races take place from 29 April – 22nd July along the flat seafront. For anyone wishing to work on their speed, particularly after long distance training it’s to be recommended! Steve Hunt was our sole representative in race one completing the distance in 20.59. On a warm summer’s evening Corinna Hussey & Rachel Cole joined Steve Hunt for race two. Steve improved by 18 seconds to run in 20.42, Corinna ran 25.41 whereas Rachel, taking part in her first ever 5k managed an excellent time of 23.37. 5 Hares, including husband & wife team Gary & Carol Nokes, made it to the third race. Carol made a welcome return to competition after an enforced absence whereas Gary & John Scaife were taking part in their first Harwich meet. PB’s were on the cards until the 3k mark when as runners turned for the final 2k they were to be defeated by an extremely annoying headwind! Despite the weather John ran an excellent time of 18.19 whereas both Steve (20.32) & Corinna (25.23) improved on race two with Gary (25.43) not far behind. Carol (27.38) was pleased with her effort as she makes a welcome return to running & triathlon. Well done to you all. |
