July 2010 Running ReportLast Update 31st July 2010
JUNIOR HARES
Many congratulations to our junior hare Alana Bleasby who took part in the Capel 1 fun run on Sunday 13th June. Alana 9, ran an impressive race coming 28th out of 61 runners, 10th overall in the under 8s. Congratulations also to Tye Kitchen who was our representative in the Bury 1 fun run on June 26th – Tye came 21st out of 93 runners, 11th overall in her age category the under 11s – well done to you both.
IPSWICH EKIDEN RELAY
The annual Ipswich Ekiden Marathon Relay held this year on 18th July, is a really great social event, with teams from running clubs as far afield as Norwich entering teams of six to cover the marathon distance in stages of 5, 7.5 or 10km. Held in the grounds of St Joseph’s School, Ipswich, the day is a great opportunity to meet with other clubs and enjoy the atmosphere. This year over 90 teams were entered with many clubs having up to six or seven teams in the various age and gender catagories. Many clubs brought marquees or gazebos to act as temporary headquarters making an impromptu tented village. Hadleigh entered just one team, but acquitted themselves well considering the level of competition. First off was Rachel Cole on the 7.5km opening leg, passing over to Helen Norman on the first 5km section. John Norman then took over for 10km before Deb Stewart took the team on for the second 5km. Next up was Brian Airlie who charged his 10km despite a bad attack of cramp, and finally race newcomer Rupert Avis put in a storming last 5km to bring the team home in just over 3hours 30 minutes.
CLUB 5K
Well done to all those who turned out to support the annual club 5k race on 15th July. Despite a very warm evening 14 Hares, represented from all club nights, ran the undulating course, with a few tricky gradients thrown in for good measure! Thank you to Lorraine, Trudy & Amanda for timekeeping & water duties! Well done to Anya, Rachel, Mark & David who ran their first Club 5k & to all the runners who posted good times, in particular Corinna Hussey who was elated to see a 3 minute improvement from 2009! A water fight ensued at the finish line followed by well deserved beer & chips at the pub. Hopefully we will see ALL of you next year! |
