Following a race specific training schedule, Hadleigh Hares distance running ace Vic Kenny made her marathon debut in the Paris Marathon on 12th April 2015. Having set Ladies club records & personal bests for 10 miles & the half marathon in the build up, Vic travelled with partner Ollie Riches in a very optimistic but determined mood. With any new venture, there is always an element of uncertainty & despite a very painful injury to her toe only days before, Vic knew she was well prepared & attacked the race with relish.
Starting with 50,000 other nervous runners on the world famous Champs Elysees, Vic quickly slotted into her rhythm & put her pre-prepared pacing plan into operation. Running near second perfect mile & 5K splits Vic stormed through half way in 1.33, then confidently threw in a few 6.50 miles just for good measure!
Despite the unseasonably very hot conditions, Vic pushed on past the Eiffel Tower & Notre Dame Cathedral at 18 miles, undeterred as the temperature reached 25 degrees, producing a fine display of powerful, even paced relaxed running.
Still on schedule for a superb time, Vic dug deep & maintained her rhythm all the way to the finish, completing the course in 3.06.51!!!! & in the process broke Barbara Sanders 11 year old ladies club record by the enormous margin of 24mins 38seconds.
Relaxing in the satisfaction of a job well done, Vic didn't have too long to wait for Ollie, as he stormed through the finish line, in 3.50, lopping a massive 20 mins from his PB, set in Rotterdam, a just reward for his increased training & preparation through the winter.
